Watching a rubbish video called 'the secret' which my sister's boss gave to her, it is a completely crap, talking about the greatest ‘secret’ ordinary people have not been able to know it since ancient Babylon or something like that.
It tries to draw audience’s attention on something like discovery the mummy treasure or Da Vinci Code kind of mystery, but then, turning out talking a low level kind of self- persuasion re-discovery scientology or self-deceit positiveness, named ’ the law of attraction’. This fucking law is about your thoughts will influence reality, and what you think is like a ‘magnetic’ to attract things to you, so and so you are responsible for your own sorrow arse. As your unhappiness, debt, disaster, stupid marriage, poor status is all under your command.
Well, I mean, that’s ok if you are talking about a positive way of thinking, looking at things from the other side, it sucks also, but not that much. But talking about the secret, the law of attraction, and all commercial professionals/entertainers talking about how exciting they have known this secret since (and that’s for sure, they must know it much earlier than us )and their application into their life becoming a living proof on the video. One writer, i have never heard of, he said: I was struggling to write something good (wait a sec, good refers to sales perspective rather than anything else), but balabala...(yep. of course, the law of attraction helps him Think finally), and now I become a world-famous writer, living in a luxury house with a beautiful wife, travelling anytime I want…and so on’. Overall, this law helps him to get what he has always wanted in life.
So, from now on, you have to ‘think’ very carefully, otherwise any nasty things can happen to you, which sounds like a aggressive religious mania. Anyway, my sister fell asleep in 10 minutes, and I don’t have much time to discovery the real secret, what I really care about is how much money they earn after making ‘the secret’ in video. Believe me, the ‘Yes, Man’ is much more fun to watch, even though playing the same trick like stop saying no, saying Yes to everything (positive way of thinking), it is just much more realistic and cooler, open up yourself for any possibility. I turned it off after seeing the main presenter’s career stated as a dreamer on the screen, makes me wonder is that a sort of joke to viewers, don’t believe a word he says.

As long as (2)....
System (sort of)
By the time I heard about his illness I already head back to Shanghai. Despite I have been very busy to make a plan killing my bully boss, but I still have the condition about forgetting things… such as…what?
One day I found myself in the mirror look not much difference from a half dead fish, I told myself it is time to borrow someone’s story to get rid of crappy job. The resigning letter only states that due to a series of unfortunate events and I need to leave immediately.
No more explanation what these events actually are, but clearly, so-called unfortunate events usually means something important we lost.
The mystery deepens for, one week after quitting, my friend died in Mesothelioma cancer, a very rare form of cancer and move very fast. Malcom McLaren recent death is also caused by this. Even he is stated as performer, impresario, self-publicist and the former manager of the Sex Pistols, and etc, but I think he is more important to play a cool role in the movement of Punk culture during 80’s, with his ex girlfriend Vivienne Westwood. Even though he is not as cool as Vivienne Westwood in later years, by his strange intention to be a London Mayor while she got a young husband about 30 years younger than her, and still owns the shop-Let It Rock (also known as Sex, Too Fast To Live Too Young) on King’s road.
However, Wiki said his last words were ‘ Free Leonard Peltier.’, this may bring some of his reputation back. These all become clearer we need something to put and remembered in our ending.
Tracing back from his death bed (form Mar to May), there are some facts I have collected so far:
- he coughs a lot;
- the doctor only shows up once, clearly he is either very busy or doesn’t know what he is doing.
- he usually has some visitors, especially insurance sales, which indicate that he knows well there may not be any tomorrow or he has no habit of eating caviar.
- the top record with numbers of visitors in one day is unknown, but only shown there is no more space for additional person to move into the room.
- his weight had dropped significantly, the shape of his bone can be seen through his pants.
- he still very well keeps his gentleness towards to others during this time, which here shows a ‘never complain, never explain’ kind of mysterious attitude.
- he died at dawn in 9th of May due to his lung failure, as it happened just too sudden, the room was silent. His family and friends did not cry at all that day, when my sister came over his girlfriend keeps saying sorry to her for their poor hospitality.
- one mail he received from a junior high school friend, the details remains unknown, but guess it is about something worth fighting for in this world.
- one afternoon, he was strolling up to the roof garden in the hospital with my sister, and enjoying a bit so-called fresh air we usually can see on the movie. The weather was very fine, everything was so prefect, but what was he thinking of?
When all the dreams were falling apart, the body will return to dust and ashes, his name and image going to be forgotten from our minds, how was he feeling? I wish I could know him better, I just wish I could have more time, and I wish I could tell him that I will remember him...
While Natalie asks Lenny tell her about his wife, and he said, ‘she was beautiful. To me, she was perfect’. But she says don’t just recite the words, Close your eyes... and..try, Remember her.
Remember him
Here comes to the memory we link to a person, we collect every piece of facts and details in order to have our own way to remember them. Between facts and memory, there is always a link between them, we try hard to capture that moment, we try to remember, we try to figure a way to keep them in our heart even though they were gone.
I wonder then, without making such effort, my memory about him will soon fade away and cannot be interpreted in more accurate way. His death will make no different at all in my life, and the connection between us will lost forever. In search of a way to feel what he feels, to retain those events happening in his life, I start feeling that this connection will last, as long as…. I know to remember.
Ps. I watched memento after a friend’s death, and trying to retain this mysterious puzzle of memories and thoughts about this friend in order to remember him.

As long as (1)....

Ask people to recall their memory about a thing or a person, they usually come up many different ways and approaches to that question. Someone may say I remember my childhood lived in attic, and I was very happy; someone says my first car was in very beautiful blue I was nearly broke in order to take it; I kept two diaries in high school, one for my parents, another for myself.
Theory about how our brain works to store or keep a memory are mostly very scientific. The approach I have recently found is from the film ‘Memento’ which I watch it after a friend’s death. Indeed, there are many concepts toward the director symbolic filming techniques, but I am more impressed on his approach on the relationship between facts and memory.
' Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.’ from Memento
Now, in trying to keep the above mentioned theory in perspective, my first question is: what is ‘fact’ and ‘memory’?
Some definitions about fact from online dictionary:
- something that actually exists; reality; truth:
- something known to exist or to have happened:
- a truth known by actual experience or observation;
- something said to be true or supposed to have happened
- a piece of information about circumstances that exist or events that have occurred;
- an event known to have happened or something known to have existed;
- a concept whose truth can be proved;
And the definition about ‘memory’’
- the mental capacity or faculty of retaining and reviving facts, events, impressions, etc., or of recalling or recognizing previous experiences
- a particular act of recall or recollection
- the period of time covered by the remembrance or recollection of a person or group of persons
- the act or fact of retaining and recalling impressions, facts, etc.; remembrance; recollection: to draw from memory

If fact is a concept whose truth can be proved, how can we prove a smell of bread, a smile of a face, or a feeling of extra cream on top of mocha?
If Memory is defined as the mental capacity or faculty of retaining and reviving facts, events, impressions, and etc., how far can I retain or recall those facts, events, and impressions about a friend pass away? Lenny said, you need to have a system. He makes the notes, tattoos, Polarid photos as his ‘condition’ needed. That sounds good to me even my condition is no belief of any system and somehow I know that, my memory will fade away, this is slightly worried me, one day I may wake up in a bank, say Cheers~ to the ATM machine.

One fateful day, a big event, a friend died, it was the point that I start thinking the ‘system’ more seriously.
